Haltwhistle Burn runs from the Roman Wall to the South Tyne through a varied and fascinating valley. Sometimes flanked by meadow and farmland and sometimes cutting through narrow rock gorges, the Burn has provided the raw materials for succession of industries which brought prosperity to the town. Now reclaimed by nature, it provides a stimulus to learning across a broad curriculum.

Recently the footpath which runs from the town to the Military Road has been resurfaced, bridges have been replaced and gates have been made wheelchair accessible. It provides an excellent venue for classes who wish to incorporate real experiences into their curriculum.

There are no buildings along the Burn but classes may have the use of  a portable toilet,  hand-washing facilities  and  a large “canvas” shelter which comfortably accommodates a class of 30 plus adult helpers.  

 

Field Trips

 Walks and field trips can be booked for Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays all through the year.

 The visits are led by an experienced primary teacher and science specialist.

 Field trips can be tailored to suit individual class requirements. Planning visits, preliminary and follow-up visits can be arranged.

 As this project is fully funded there is no charge.
